In the wake of tensions along LoC, BJP National President Rajnath Singh
today alleged that the Congress-led UPA government has "failed
completely" on both the internal and external security fronts.
"The Centre has not only failed miserably on the economic front but has
also turned out to be a complete failure on internal and external
security front as well," Rajnath told reporters here in reply to a
question regarding repeated ceasefire violations by Pakistani troops,
during a book release programme here.
He said that after the Mumbai terror attack and the recent incident of
beheading of Indian soldiers by Pakistani troops, the Centre failed to
give a befitting reply which it must have given to the neighbouring
country.
"If a tough stand would have been taken at the time of these incidents
and the UPA government would have warned to stop any dialogue until and
unless all terror camps operating on Pakistani soil were destroyed, then
Pakistan may have not dared," Rajnath said.
In a reply to another query, BJP president said that all allies of NDA would jointly contest the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
He said that even if BJP win 272 seats in Lok Sabha, required to form
the government on its own, the allies would remain in the government.
On being asked regarding announcement of candidates for the general
elections due next year, Rajnath said that it would be done at an
appropriate time.

A Movie Based on NAMO story now
New Delhi, Aug. 23 -- The biopic is the flavour of the season, and
the latest in line is one on a man who hits headlines almost every day.
Producer-director Mitesh Patel has confirmed that he is making a film on
Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi.
"I'm inspired by Narendra Modi's journey - from a common man who owned a tea stall, to a chief minister. We'll try to cover various parts of his life - his childhood, working as a ground-level RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh) member, to becoming the CM," says Patel.
The filmmaker says he recently met Modi to get his consent for the film, which he says, "will not be a biopic per se, but will be based on his life. We'll add fictional elements. The script is not 100% about his life. Technically, we don't need permission, but we sought it as we don't want trouble." Patel is currently scouting for shoot locations in Gujarat.
Does he have a wishlist of actors? "We have some in mind, including Paresh Rawal. All the actors will be from Bollywood," he says.
The filmmaker is originally from Vadodara, Gujarat, and is settled in USA (California). We tried reaching Modi's office through Patel, but he said (on record) that "they don't want to comment on this right now. They might make one when we announce the film with the cast and crew later."
Will one of them play Modi?
Buzz is that the three actors who've met Modi recently may be the preferred contenders for his role in the biopic. Early this month, during the promotions of his recently released film Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai Dobaara in Gujarat, actor Akshay Kumar took time to meet Modi at the latter's office in Gandhinagar. He was joined by actor Paresh Rawal who was also in the city. As per sources, during the interaction, the Gujarat CM and the two actors discussed various steps taken by the Gujarat government to promote the development of sports, as well as overall development of the youth. When asked about the reason for his visit, Akshay said, "It was personal. Main aapko kyon bataoon?"
A couple of months before that, actor John Abraham, too, was seen meeting Modi. John met Modi in April in Gandhinagar. "I've always promoted fitness and wish to establish it as a lifestyle habit. Mr Modi and I talked about propagating fitness and animal welfare in the state as these are two causes that I'm extremely passionate about," the actor said, not giving away more.
Then, actor Ajay Devgn met Modi in May last year in connection with his solar energy venture, and had also visited him in June 2010 to promote his then released film, Raajneeti.

Most of the saplings planted on August 15
It’s not just celebrities who keep a lookout for a photo-ops. Even
government officials don’t want to miss a chance. So, here comes the
obvious question: Was the picture taken of Central Railway’s additional
general manager Sharad Ingale planting saplings on August 15 a photo-op
or one shot for a good cause?
A week after Ingale planted saplings between Parel and Dadar stations on Independence Day as part of an afforestation drive, most of these saplings have dried up, wilting reminders of the day. That’s how serious the CR is about initiatives taken by their bosses, says a commuter at Parel.
“Commuters at Parel station have been facing many problems but the railways have been delaying removing them. We have been asking for a fast train halt at Parel and an extension of the platform for a long time, but there has been no response,” Sanjay Ghavate, who has been fighting for an up-gradation of the station, said.
The plantation drive was held on the morning of August 15 after Ingle unfurled the national flag at Mumbai CST.
According to the Indian Railway Works Manual, trees are planted in accordance with Para 704 of the manual. The engineering department is responsible for tree plantation and maintenance of horticulture in common areas like stations, colonies, offices and community parks.
“But at Mumbai suburban stations, most of the gardens are in a bad shape. They have become dumping grounds,” said a traveller. A few years ago, the railways had launched a drive to gardens at station ends, but that died a natural death.
CR spokesperson AK Singh said that CR will look into the matter.

BSPsupremoMayawati on Thursday alleged connivance
NEW DELHI: BSPsupremoMayawati on Thursday alleged connivance between BJP and SP over VHP's proposed yatra from Ayodhya, saying the parties wanted to create communal tension in Uttar Pradesh.
"I think the controversy about the VHP yatra is with an understanding between both the parties...BJP and SP are behind the controversy over the yatra and both these parties want to create communal tension. They want violence between" two communities, Mayawati told reporters outside Parliament.
She said both the parties were on a weak footing in the state.
"The Samajwadi Party government has badly failed on the law and order front. People of the state are very much against the government because of the deteriorating law and order situation.
"On the other hand, BJP's position is also not good in the state and both the parties are aware of it. Lok Sabha elections are round the corner, so in this situation if Lok Sabha elections are held, the results will not be good for SP and BJP," she said.
Condemning the "political game plan" behind the controversy over VHP's yatra, she appealed both communities to be aware of the "sinister design of SP and BJP".
The former UP chief minister also demanded imposition of President's Rule in the state saying even "policemen are not safe in the state."
Referring to the attack on a DSP and a constable by liquor mafia near Ghaziabad recently, Mayawati said, "When policemen are not safe in UP, how can the common man in the state be safe?"
"People are suffering because of deteriorating law and order situation. When police tries to act against criminals, they are attacked," she said.
"That is why, I appeal to the UP Governor to take all these incidents seriously into consideration and recommend President's Rule in the state," she said.

How ironical it is, that the touted dream team of Indian economy - Dr
Manmohan Singh, Dr Montek Singh Ahluwalia, and P Chidambaram will leave a
legacy of terrible growth deceleration, persistently high inflation,
rising unemployment, and a depreciating currency after 10 years in
office.
But the "lost decade" under UPA is not just an economic disaster. This
total economic collapse is only a natural consequence of appalling lack
of leadership, absolute breakdown of authority, directionless decision
making, zero accountability, and complete disregard for integrity and
ethics.
Modi is an idea whose time has come!
Ten years ago, an India that was racing towards a global superpower
status, and striving to reclaim its position in the league of world
nations, has been plunged into an abyss of hopelessness and despair. The
confidence, enthusiasm and vigor that were the catalysts of India's
resurgence seem to have suddenly evaporated.
And in this scene, the man emerges. History bears witness that time and
again effective leaders, who can mobilize people, tackle tough problems
and spot opportunities in crises emerge in times of great stress, change
and uncertainty. In India too, a fierce wild wind that is blowing from
the western state of Gujarat has already rustled many dead feathers in
Delhi; the name is Narendra Modi.
The man's emergence on national horizon is not an overnight phenomenon.
It is a result of a life lived completely in the service of the
motherland, years of devoted work at grassroots level, and a decade of
governance with administrative acumen and effective leadership.
Progress and Performance
Unlike the Congress and most regional parties where leadership is
hereditary and an election ticket is taken as a birthright, Modi's claim
to fame is only one factor - performance. Even in this atmosphere of
gloom, Gujarat under his stewardship stands out as a beacon of hope. As
the reputed global news magazine the Economist puts it - "So many things
work properly in Gujarat that it hardly seems like India."
With 5% of India's population, Gujarat today accounts for 16% of
country's industrial output and 22% of exports. The state has
consistently maintained a double digit GDP growth over the past decade,
with agriculture growing at 10% consistently even as India struggled to
achieve a low bar of 3%. As a result of sustained efforts undertaken by
Modi and his team, Gujarat today has minimal labor issues,
state-of-the-art infrastructure, uninterrupted power supply and
supportive bureaucracy.
The state known for traders only a few years back has made rapid strides
in agriculture, manufacturing and services sectors. The average citizen
so awfully let down by the current national leadership is naturally
looking at Modi to steer India out of the current crisis, and his
stellar track record obviously puts him ahead of others in the race.
Clean Image
When corruption seems to be the order of the day, Modi's personal
integrity and honesty stands out. Modi, his personality, his style of
functioning and his growth model have been subject to unprecedented
scrutiny and analysis in the past few years. Any strong leader will have
his share of adversaries in politics and media, and frankly speaking,
Modi has more than his fair share of them. But even Modi's most
stringent critics and political opponents will admit that the man does
not a have single blot of corruption or scandal to his name. Check this
out - in the recent Wikileaks controversy over leaking of US diplomatic
cables, every politician whose name figured in the cables stood exposed
and tarnished.
Modi's name was mentioned about 100 times in the cable, but he was the
only politician, not just in India, but across the world whose name but
did not contain a single negative reference. When politics India has
become synonymous with dynasty and nepotism, how pleasantly surprising
it is to know that the family of the chief minister of one the richest
states in the country lives in a modest 2 bedroom apartment, away from
the glamour and clout that they could have so easily commanded!
Economic Acumen
There goes a saying in India - good politics is not good economics, and
good economics is not good politics. This is because when the focus of a
political party is so jaundiced on winning the next election by hook or
by crook, it leaves very little scope for pursuing an economic policy
that take years to show results and bear fruits. Our economic disaster
can partly be traced to the lack of political willingness to take tough,
visionary decisions. The UPA in past has resorted to disastrous schemes
like farm loan waiver and NREGA with dire consequences to the economy.
Their new initiatives like direct cash transfer and food security bills
are steps in the same direction, taken only with a view on the coming
general elections. Who cares about fiscal discipline? This is even after
all policymakers have acknowledged that without proper infrastructure
for implementation, such schemes result in huge leakages and losses to
public exchequer without bringing any tangible benefits to the lives of
intended beneficiaries. A politician's true test will lie in being able
to take difficult, enduring decisions even if it requires risking short
term political gains. Modi has demonstrated this in Gujarat time and
again.
In his tenure right from 2001, he has desisted from taking populist
decisions or giving freebies. When he faced considerable opposition in
the last state elections in 2012, he could have easily added a few more
seats to his tally by announcing some freebies and subsidies here and
there, but he resisted taking that path.
Instead, Modi has always focused on generating investment which
eventually leads to more growth, employment and better standard of
living in the long run. It takes tremendous discipline and confidence in
oneself to do this, especially when short term rewards are so
attractive. No other politician in India except Modi had courage to
oppose the proposed Food Security Bill, for the risk of losing some vote
share.
Mass Appeal
Critics have been continuously accusing him of being a polarizing figure
who would not be able to take everybody along with him. Modi's recent
rally in Hyderabad proved how horribly wrong and biased they really are.
Congress's opportunistic politics in dealing with the Telangana
agitation has led to a very distressing scenario of escalating tensions
between the two newly formed regions of Telangana and Seemandhra. Almost
everybody in the state has taken an extreme position on this issue.
Tensions have reached to such an alarming level that no politician can
even take the name of Seemandhra in Telangana.
Modi struck a poignant note, appealing to our Andhra brothers to stop
hostility amongst themselves and move shoulder to shoulder on the path
of development. In an act of sublime statesmanship, he made the entire
crowd hail both Telangana and Seemandhra right in the heart of
Hyderabad. It would have required incredible political courage and
conviction to pull off something like this.
Path of Development
But Modi's single biggest achievement has been to aggressively steer the
national discourse from vote bank politics to development politics. One
of the biggest drawbacks of Indian democracy is that electoral outcome
is still based on caste/religious blocks voting en masse in favor or
against a particular candidate. This remains the primary factor above
all everything else, and the candidate's track record, integrity and
other real issues get overshadowed. Modi has sounded a death knell to
politics based on such narrow identity considerations. In the past ten
years, he has never tried to polarize the electorate through caste-based
references or policies.
Elections in Gujarat have been fought purely on the basis of what the
government has done in past 5 years and how that has affected the lives
of people. In the process, he has offered himself, his government and
his policies for unparalleled examination, criticism and debate. Every
possible social/development indicator has been brought out and analyzed
threadbare. If previous central and state governments had been subjected
to even a fraction of assessment and scrutiny by the yardsticks that
have been applied to Gujarat, India's situation today would have been
radically different.
Patriot who embodies strength
When India is facing serious security threats at the borders and within
its borders, it desperately needs a leader who can take strong decisions
and put narrow political interests aside. It needs somebody who has a
firm and realistic view of what is happening on the ground, which can
provide a powerful political backing to its defence forces, which can
inspire the spirit within the masses. Modi seems to perfectly fit the
bill in this regard.
Need of the hour
He has been most articulate on a range of issues including national
security, foreign policy, reducing the size of government, promoting
enterprise and empowerment, necessity of electoral reforms, changing
India's archaic labor and business laws, etc. What sets him apart
completely from the others is that he provides two things which we
desperately need today - vision and hope.
Narendra Modi's rise is the story of an underprivileged boy from a
village in Gujarat rising in the hearts and minds of people by sheer
hard work and determination. It is absolutely reprehensible on the part
of Congress and their cabal of cultivated journalists to ridicule his
background by calling him names like chaiwalla, tea stall worker, etc.
It is a matter of great pride and inspiration that somebody with even
such humble beginnings rose up as a source of inspiration for millions
of aspiring and restless youth of the country. Their comical yuvraaj is
still roaming the villages of India with a camera crew ostensibly trying
to understand India. At the age of 43, he is still struggling to figure
out what India's problems actually are!!
Modi has been a victim of the biggest witch hunt by political
opposition, biased media, NGOs with vested interests, and so called
pseudo-intellectuals. Anyone would have broken down and given up in the
face of such a vicious, personalized and sustained campaign. Modi has
been able to come out of it much stronger and determined purely on the
strength of his character and convictions.
The arc of politics is now bending, and Indians are now looking at him
as an answer to towering challenges the country is facing. Numerous
nationwide surveys done by independent agencies all have one conclusion
in common - that Narendra Modi is far ahead in terms of popularity and
groundswell of support across the country, and any of his competitors
come only a distant second.
The now inevitable ascendance of Modi on the national centre stage is
not merely the ascendance of an individual. To quote Victor Hugo, for
India, Modi is an idea whose time has come. And when he comes, he will
truly be a merchant of death - merchant of death to terrorism, merchant
of death to vote banks and nepotism, merchant of death to political and
bureaucratic inefficiency, merchant of death to darkness and despair!!

India Today CVoter Mood of the Nation poll: Narendra Modi's popularity is waning, but he remains the best choice for PM
India Today Online
New Delhi, August 16, 2013 | UPDATED 10:36 IST
The popularity of the campaign committee chief of Bharatiya Janata Party
(BJP) for 2014 Lok Sabha polls -- Narendra Modi -- is on the downhill,
the finding of India Today-CVoter Mood of the Nation opinion poll
suggests.
The
latest study, based on a national representative sample of 15,815
randomly selected respondents across 28 states between August 2 and 10,
comes as a setback to the Gujarat chief minister, who has been banking
on his popularity to emerge as the BJP's prime ministerial candidate.Pics: India Today/CVoter Mood of the Nation survey-The Congress' best PM candidate
The opinion poll shows that Modi is preferred by only 45 per cent people as the future prime minister as compared to 57 per cent in the previous survey, held in January this year.
He,
however, continues to be the most popular face among those in the prime
ministerial race with Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi finishing
again next to him. Like Modi, the Gandhi scion's popularity has also
been waning as he polled 32 per cent votes compared to 41 per cent in
January 2013.
Other choices in BJP, Congress
To a question who the best PM candidate in the BJP is, Modi again emerged on the top with 51 per cent people favouring him. Party patriarch L.K. Advani finished a distant second with 18 per cent votes.
The
others -- Sushma Swaraj (6 per cent), Shivraj Singh Chouhan (4 per
cent) and Arun Jaitley (3 per cent) -- could barely make an impact.Pics: India Today/CVoter Mood of the Nation survey-The BJP's best PM candidate
Similarly, Rahul Gandhi was the best choice for the PM candidate in the Congress with 44 per cent respondents wanting him to replace the incumbent, Manmohan Singh, who polled a meagre 15 per cent votes.
The other contenders -- P. Chidambaram (6 per cent), A.K. Antony (5 per cent) and Sheila Dikshit (3 per cent) -- were hardly any choices.
Leaders on the fringes
So
who has dented the two leading contenders' popularity? With the talks
of proposed Third Front emerging stronger, it is the leaders like
Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati, Samajwadi Party (SP) president
Mulayam Singh Yadav, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief N. Chandrababu
Naidu, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and his Tamil Nadu counterpart
and AIADMK chief J. Jayalalithaa who seem to be making inroads.Pics: India Today/CVoter Mood of the Nation survey-The best non-Congress, non-BJP PM candidate
There was a tie between the two of the strongest leaders from Uttar Pradesh -- Mayawati and Mulayam -- when the respondents were asked who should be PM in non-Congress, non-BJP government. Both of them got 7 per cent votes, followed closely by the TDP chief (6 per cent), Nitish (5 per cent) and Jayalalithaa (4 per cent).
The best option
Though
BJP's face for the next general election -- Modi -- has lost his
popularity over the months since January this year, the party itself has
gained as it got 33 per cent votes compared to the previous 24 per cent
to a question which political outfit can provide a stable coalition
government.

The opinion poll shows that Modi is preferred by only 45 per cent people as the future prime minister as compared to 57 per cent in the previous survey, held in January this year.

Other choices in BJP, Congress
To a question who the best PM candidate in the BJP is, Modi again emerged on the top with 51 per cent people favouring him. Party patriarch L.K. Advani finished a distant second with 18 per cent votes.

Big B furious over fake video using his voice to praise Modi, to take action
India Today Online
Mumbai, August 22, 2013 | UPDATED 10:20 IST
Amitabh Bachchan is upset and angry over a fake YouTube video in
which his voice has been used in a campaign in favour of Gujarat Chief
Minister Narendra Modi.
Big B tweeted, "Somebody has made a fake video by using my voice and text of what I spoke in the original, and falsely and mischievously interspersed it with visuals which indicate a campaign for the promotion of the Hon Chief Minister of Gujarat, Shri Narendra Modi !!'
Writing in his blog, Bachchan said, the original video was done in 2007, when he was part of a 'Lead India' campaign, where he had spoken of India's glory.
He further wrote that he had asked his digital team to find out who had created the fake video and to initiate action against the perpetrators.
"I wish to state that this is an illegal act, inviting strong action, one that I am appalled by, and one that has no concurrence from me at all... I have brought this to the notice of the concerned authorities, and asked my Digital Team to find out its origin so that we can initiate action against the perpetrator. This is a blatant misuse and infringement of the Copyright Act, and needs to be condemned by all those that become a part of this platform," he wrote. "(I am) infuriated and angered," he said.
The five video links that Bachchan had posted on his blog have since been deleted. However, one link (SCROLL DOWN FOR VIDEO), a compilation of his original video and the fake video, shows how Bachchan's voice and text have been misused. This video shows the original video and then immediately moves into the fake video.
Bachchan also raised the issue on social networking site Twitter.
And the twitter world was quick to react to Bachchan's tweet and condemned the creator of the fake video and called for immediate action against him.
Even Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi condemned the fake video and said, "The author of the fake video should take action immediately apologise immediately to Amitabhji."
Bachchan signs off the post by quoting his father, "In a world filled with all kinds of venom and distaste, malicious intent and perpetrators of all legality, there is a limit to which one shall be able to tolerate."

Modi I-Day speech beats PM's, says online poll Read more at: http://indiatoday.intoday.in/story/narendra-modi-independence-day-speech-manmohan-singh-online-poll
Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi's Independence Day address in Bhuj
seems to have won the battle of the Independence Day speeches.
In an online poll on indiatoday.in, 92 per cent of the people who took the survey liked Modi's speech. Just 8 per cent liked Manmohan Singh's speech from the Red Fort.
Before Independence Day, Modi had challenged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh that he would outdo the latter's Independence Day speech.
Comparison between Modi and Manmohan on important issues:
Relations with Pakistan:
Manmohan: Relations with Pakistan can only improve when it checks anti-India activities on its soil.
Modi: The prime minister should have ensured armed forces' morale was boosted by his I-Day speech.
Food security:
Manmohan: Food security law will benefit 75 per cent of rural population and half of urban population.
Modi: The Food Security bill would worsen the condition of the poor.
Education:
Manmohan: Many new institutions have been opened in the area of higher education. For example, 8 new IITs, 7 New IIMs, 16 new Central universities and 10 new NITs.
Modi: We are the only state to have graded colleges, schools and there are now 42 universities in the state.
It is clear from the above that Modi had tried to put himself at the forefront of India's ongoing issues with Pakistan. He also criticised the food security bill for not being inclusive enough.
On Twitter also, Narendra Modi fared better than the Prime Minister.
V. Chitra tweeted, "On the Independence day, lots of curses to the PM who ruined us. May God give him the worst. Lots of blessings to Modi."

BJP is not against food security bill but we are against the way it is
being implemented. Sheila Dikshit is an expert in making announcements
but, as her past record shows, her government is a disaster when it
comes to implementing the schemes. Earlier every Household was entitled
for 35 Kg of food grains per month, but now a family of four will get
only 20 Kg.

Narendra Modi as PM will 'drag' Dawood to India, says Shiv Sena
Mumbai: In a dig at Narendra Modi's speech targeting the Prime Minister on the Independence Day, Shiv Sena on Saturday said it hoped that the BJP leader, when he takes the top post, would "drag" fugitive gangster Dawood Ibrahim to India and hang him.
"The issues on which Modi criticised the PM, he has to resolve them tomorrow," Sena president Uddhav Thackeray said in an editorial in the party mouthpiece 'Saamana' here.
"If Modi gets power like Sardar Patel in Delhi, he will imprison all those who are looting the country. He will drag Hafiz Saeed, Dawood Ibrahim and Tiger Memon from Pakistan and hang them.
"He will stuff all the black money in Swiss banks in a cargo plane and bring it back to India. The poor and farmers will be happy and lead a debt-free life," Thackeray said in his editorial.
It further said, "The Rupee that is falling today against the dollar will show an exactly opposite trend. We are sure if Modi comes to power, Pakistanis will not cross our borders and kill our soldiers. Our submarines like Sindhurakshak will not catch fire. Modi can make all this happen and no one has doubt over this.
"Whether Pakistan has lost its sleep over Modi's speech is only known to Hafiz Saeed, but we have heard that some Congress ministers have certainly ordered for sleeping pills," the Sena said.
The editorial also has reference to Senior BJP leader LK Advani's exception to Modi's aggressive criticism of the Prime Minister on the Independence Day.
